Number of Attorneys:
What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?:
We continuously strive to inform our clients and potential clients with regard to the specifics of Texas laws. We accomplish this goal by providing detail and current information through our various websites and through the continual communication between our attorneys and clients.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?:
Certainly. We are always happy to help.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?:
Absolutely. There are some cases where it is simply not economically viable for a client to partner with a law firm. In such an event, we are happy to provide valuable insight to help those in need. It is important to note that 99% of the time a client can greatly benefit from hiring an experienced attorney to help them with their case. Typically, an attorney can increase the value of a client's case to the point that the client stands to make more money in their pocket even after attorney's fees than they could by processing the case on their own. Any potential slip up of misapplication of the law or formal processes will damage the value of a case and will likely cause the case to fail completely. By partnering with an experienced attorney, the client gains piece of min in knowing that they do not have to worry about making such an error. Furthermore, legal work is very time consuming and stressful to those who are not experienced with such matters. Even most attorneys hire an attorney when they need help simply because it saves you much time, effort, and emotional distress.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?:
Certainly. While some law firms will charge legal fees on the whole case or claim, we only charge for the work that we do; and even then the client only pays if we win. A perfect example of this would be a car accident where a client makes a successful claim against the defendant's insurance company, but has trouble making a successful claim against their uninsured/ underinsured coverage. In many cases such as this, we have been able to help the client with just that portion of the case and we do not believe in charging them legal fees for the work that THEY put into their case. However, we always recommend that anyone considering handling any part of their case should talk to an attorney first so they know what they are getting into. Once someone makes a mistake in their own case, it is hard for a lawyer to fix the mistake, and it is usually more beneficial to the client to have an attorney help from start to finish.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?:
Everything that our firm does is in the interest of putting the most amount of money in our client's pocket. To properly answer this question, we must explain the difference between the way our firm bills. Some firms will bill the client for the attorney's time separately from the legal assistant's time which creates a scenario for the client to pay large attorney fees for something that a legal assistant could have done for less money. In the interest of making the client the most money, we simply charge a flat rate attorney's fee in the form of a contingency fee. The client only pays if we are successful, and they do not pay any extra if the attorney is more involved in their case. In fact, our attorneys are personally involved in every case.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?:
We choose the method that is most beneficial to the client. While there are many firms that will take a case to trial for the free publicity, we always put the best interest of the client first, and we attempt to resolve the case in the method that is going to have the highest likelihood of success for our client. We are trial attorneys with decades of experience in the court room, but for every hour we have spent in trial we have spent 20 hours in mediation or some other alternative form of resolution. We have considerable experience with every method of case resolution.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?:
We have been known to help in such situations. We are always willing to speak to anyone who needs this type of help.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?:
There is a lot to be said about our specific expertise, our winning track record, and our considerable experience, but we feel that the primary difference is the way that we interact with our client. Our firm has an "open door" policy whereby our client can always speak to an attorney about their case. In many law firms, the lawyers try to distance themselves from their clients, and some might argue that they display an air of superiority. Our attorneys are always available to speak to our clients. Legal cases are typically a long process which makes the attorney/ client relationship absolutely vital. We strive to treat our clients like family.
