What is your firm's point of view regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?:
The client can certainly help themselves by learning what the issues are, and how to be properly prepared to present their case, as well as learning what resources are available to them, including child support collection services. However, I would caution a client that doing some research online does not necessarily give them the knowledge or skills to effectively present their case in Court.
Are your attorneys willing to review documents prepared by clients?:
Absolutely! I believe it is important that I and the client work together as a team.
Are your attorneys willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?:
No.
Are your attorneys willing to help a client with one discrete part of a case, without taking on the whole case?:
I find that is difficult, as one aspect of a case can have lasting impacts on other aspects of the case.
What are your policies about dividing work among the firm's partners, associates, and paralegals to make the process most cost-effective for the client?:
I do most of the work myself, but will give owrk to my paralegal when it is cost-efficient to do so.
How frequently does your firm use mediation, arbitration, or collaborative law to resolve cases?:
Alternate dispute resolution is appropriate in some cases, and I do recommend it when it appears it will be a viable method of resolving the case. I am a member of the Massachusetts Collaborative law Council.
Does your firm provide pro bono legal services or otherwise participate in your community?:
Yes-I am a Board Member of The Divorce Center, Inc., which provides public education on issues relating to divorce.
What distinguishes your law firm from others?:
I take the time to listen to the client and use my experience and knowledge to provide them with practical advice to help them not only as they are going through a divorce, but also as they move forward with their life. I explore avenues of resolution that will benefit the client, and use my creativity to try to reach solutions for all my clients-whether family law, civil litigation or other matters.
