Divorce Resource was founded in 1997 by Robert F. Zaniel, an attorney in Fairfax, Virginia who has specialized in divorce and family law for over twenty-five years. He believed that the traditional means of providing services to individuals going through divorce and separation far too often resulted in highly contentious litigation resulting in long term emotional stress and substantial financial loss. He believes that the focus should be on resolving the divorce and family conflict sensibly and efficiently minimizing stress and financial burden for the parties.

Robert F. Zaniel received his B.A. degree from Villanova University in 1975. He granduated from the International School of Law in 1978 and was received a Juris Doctor from George Mason Law School in 1983. Mr. Zaniel has practiced primarily in the area of family law for his entire career and founded DivorceResource.com in 1997.
Activities and Awards
Over the course of his family law practice, Mr. Zaniel been an active member of the Fairfax County Bar Association having chaired the Fairfax County Bar's Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court Committee and receiving the President's award for his work as editor of the Fairfax County Circuit Court Manual. Mr. Zaniel was deemed qualified to serve as a Judge of the Juevnile & Domestic Relations District Court. In 2009, Lexis Nexus/Martindale Hubbel awarded the lawyers of Divorce Resource. LLC, the Preeminent Lawyers Award in Family Law.
